Ep27: We Predict The Top Scorer and Who Is The Most Over Rated Player?

In todays episode we start by talking through the main news stories of the week. Michael Beale got the boot from Sunderland after only a dozen games. All of a sudden they find themselves in a very different position than last season where they looked like one of the most exciting teams not only in the division, but the whole of English football. What would they ive to have Tony Mowbray back in charge?

Speaking of which, we wish Tony Mowbray a speedy recovery from his current health issues and look forward to seeing him back in the dugout soon.

Southampton have been in unbeatable form since their awful run earlier in the season.... but is that inconsistency returning. Against West Brom they looked outstanding at times, but relatively poor performances against Bristol City, Hull, and a come from behind win against Huddersfield perhaps show signs of a dip in form at the time when they would be looking to fight Leeds United and Ipswich Town for that second automatic promotion place.

Exciting times for West Bromwich Albion fans as the takeover was completed prior to the home game against Southampton. Hopefully for them they can now compete financially for reinforcements in the next transfer window. Will they be shopping for players to keep them in the English Premier League? Or will it be to strengthen their chances of getting promotion from the EFL Championship?

A solid and welcome away win against a disappointing Plymouth Argyle will only help their push for the play offs.

Then we briefly covered the bonkers Ipswich v Rotherham game where both sets of fans went through every emotion possible in the last few minutes of the match..... we're sure there were a few Norwich City fans who did too!

We noticed there was a thread in the Championship Fans Group on Facebook that discussed who was going to win the Golden Boot in the EFL Championship this season. We thought it would be a pretty simple task, but as ever these things tend to grow arms and legs, and David ended up diving deeper and deeper down a rabbit hole until he was happy with the outcome being a good representation of the strength of schedule the player has, the strength of the opposition, how many goals do they tend to score home and away, what percentage of their teams goals do they score home and away etc....

We're happy with the outcome and feel it's a decent attempt at predicting what will happen in this completely unpredictable league.

Then there was the flip side of last weeks episode...... we looked at the players who are perhaps getting more praise than they should. Who is the most over rated player in the EFL Championship so far this season?

It was another chance for David to produce a scatter plot chart making the numbers come alive and show us who has failed to take their chances in front of goal, and who has perhaps been fortunate to be awarded an assist when really their team mate did all the good work.

Thank you to the Championship Fans Group for their questions and feedback and we'll see you in the next episode.

Recruitment Decisions, Done Properly.
AI in Football: Recruitment Decisions, Done Properly is a practical podcast about how football clubs make better recruitment decisions in an AI world — without the hype.

We don’t chase novelty tools. We focus on the thinking and structure that makes any tool useful: clear role briefs, behaviours over labels, constraints and trade-offs, repeatable shortlisting, and decision review that actually improves the process.

Each episode gives you something you can use:

- Role Definition Templates (behaviour-based, not position labels)

- Question sets that lead to better shortlists

- Meeting Structures that stop recruitment becoming a persuasion contest

- Simple Ways to Stress-Test Decisions (“what would make this wrong?”)

- How AI Fits Safely: drafting, checking, standardising outputs — never replacing judgement

If you work in recruitment, scouting, analysis, coaching, or you’re aiming to, this show is for you. Clarity First. Tools Second.

I'm a very approachable obsessive learner who is always interested in the stories of others, and how that information and experience can be used to help others move the needle of their life in a positive direction.

As a result of the work I do adults and younger people understand the importance of being an active participant in their own health.

The result of this is we at Elevate Health Chiropractic and Wellbeing are putting better educated individuals into the community who are making better health decisions for themselves and those they care for the most.
They move better, they eat better, they think better.

They Feel Better.

We are always looking to work with and help individuals and organisations who value their own health, that of their family, or their staff high enough to take that next step with Elevate Health, Chiropractic and Wellbeing.
